XXVIA. DEPARTMENT OF POWER
1. Formulation and implementation of policies and projects relating to power generation, development
and utilization and rural electrification, except the matter relating to non-conventional and renewable
energy.
2. Co-ordination between departments and agencies of the State and Union Governments concerned
with policies and schemes relating to power.
3. All matters connected with-
(a) West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited;
(b) West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited;
(c) The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited.
4. Other licenses responsible for generation and distribution of power.
5. All matters pertaining to the office of the Chief Electrical Inspector and Electrical Advisor.
6. All matters connected with –
(i) Durgapur Projects Limited;
(ii) Integrated Rural Energy Programme (excepting the matters allocated to Department of Non-
Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources);
(iii) Mini/Micro Hydel Projects:
(iv) Energy conservation;
(v) Clean Development Mechanism.
PART II
1. State public services with which the Department is concerned (entry 41 of List II).
2. Offences against laws with respect to any of the matters in List II with which the department is
concerned (entry 64 of List II).
3. Fees in respect of any of the matters in List II with which the department is concerned but not
including fees taken in any Court (entry 66 of List II).
4. Inquiries and statistics for the purposes of the matters specified in List III with which the department is
concerned (entry 45 of List III).
5. Fees in respect of any of the matter in List III with which the department is concerned but not
including Fees taken in any Court (entry 47 of List III).
6. Electricity with which the department is concerned (entry 38 of List III).
7. Economic planning so far as this department is concerned (entry 20 of List III).
PART III
1. Participation in international conferences, associations and other bodies and implementing of decisions
thereat so far as the department is concerned (entry 13 of List I).
2. Entering onto treaties and agreements with foreign countries and implementing the treaties,
agreements and conventions with foreign countries so far as the department is concerned (Entry 14 of
List I).
3. Union public services in respect of matters with which the department is concerned (Entry 70 of List
1).
4. Offences against laws with respect to any of the matters in List I with which the department is
concerned (Entry 93 of List I).
5. Inquiries, surveys and statistics for the purposes of any of the matters in List I with which the
department is concerned (Entry 94 of List I).
6. Fees in respect of any of the matters in List I (but not including fees taken in any Court) with which

As part of State Government initiative on promotion of Renewable Energy in the state 2 Solar Artifacts (Tree) @ 3.2KWP each were installed and made operational by WBREDA on 25th May, 2018 at Bidyut Unnayan Bhawan, Salt Lake, Kolkata., Hon'ble MIC, Power & NES Department declared the Solar Artifacts operational in the August presence of Shri Sunil Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Shri Rajesh Pandey, CMD WBSEDCL, Shri Santanu Basu, CMD WBPDCL.
